PELIS Y MAS (FILMS AND MORE)

Taking advantage of the fact that I haven’t done anything special for a while, I’m going to talk about something that makes me think that every day it is becoming more and more common to see on the media a lot of films, music videos or advertising of the use of different traditional manual arts so as to express creativity. It all started one day in my patchwork class, when my teacher had a Japanese patchwork magazine which I was checking, and in one of the pages there was a picture of Scarlett Johannson, and in a corner another picture like a movie poster, and it had a little English title, something like the quilt of the month, I don’t remember now what it was exactly. Anyway, we started to try to get an idea of what the article is about, because the magazine was in Japanese, and at the moment I don’t know this language and none of my class mates either. So we made up a story that Scarlett did the patchwork, or that she talks in this film about patchwork, or in the magazine they simply talk about a new film every month, but the final conclusion was that in this film a quilt blanket or some patchwork decoration probably appears. Then we talked about a film, which is called How to Make an American Quilt, that has patchwork as the central idea. I have never watched it and I really like cheesy romantic films, and some of the girls in the class said that it is a lovely story. The best of all is that it isn’t the only film to have a patchwork quilt object as the protagonist, or that has been shown as something to represent family, love, tradition or simply good style. Another thing to makes me want to write about this was that one of my friends sent me a music video animated with wool, which was sad but really nice. So in conclusion the old manual arts are making a comeback in modern society, and this is a good thing, for we all love doing them.
