FELICITACION CON RETRASO - CONGRATULATION WITH DELAY

Primavera de Nuevo, y todo el invierno sin escribir ni una palabra en el blog, pero que pasó? Alguno de ustedes probablemente se estuvo preguntando. Un montón de excusas podría tener, pero en realidad estuve pensando en abandonar este blog y empezar otro nuevo, con diferente nombre, y con diferentes cosas, después pensé y porque no cambiar el que ya tienes? Sii? Porque no? Pero por el momento no estoy totalmente decidida. Entonces para empezar otra vez y aprovechando la festividad, aunque un poco tarde, primero quiero desear un feliz día de la mujer, hoy y cada día y en especial a las mujeres en mi vida, empezando por mi mamá quien me ha enseñado un montón de cosas acerca de la vida, el amor, algún truco de supervivencia costuril y un montón de recetas por teléfono. Mi abuela, que aunque no pude disfrutarla mucho porque nos dejó cuando yo tenía solo cinco años (probablemente de ella tengo los genes artesanales) porque me dio a mi mamá. Mi hermanita con quien aprendí a compartir, talvez porque comparte más ella conmigo que yo con ella. Mis profesoras (monjas y no monjas durante toda mi vida), mis amigas, las viejas, las nuevas, las de siempre, las de mi familia adoptiva, mis cuñadas, mi suegra, mis sobrinas, y todas aquellas quienes directa o indirectamente han sido parte de mi vida. Por esa razón gracias a todas ellas.

 Spring time again, and all winter without a word in my blog, so what happened? Some of you are probably asking. A lot of excuses I could make, but in fact I was thinking about leaving this and starting another new blog, with a different name and everything else different, then I thought why not change what you have? Yeah, why not?! But at the moment I’m not really decided. So, to start again  and taking advantage of the festivity first, I want to say happy Women’s Day today and every day and especially for the women in my life, starting with my mum who has taught me a lot of things about life, love, some basic sewing survival tricks and a lot of telephone recipes. My grandma, although I can’t enjoy it with her because she left us when I was only five, (probably from her I have my crafter genes) because she give me my mom, my little sister with whom I learn to share, perhaps she shares more with I than I with her. My teachers (nuns and non-nuns through all my life), my friends, the old ones, the new ones, the permanent friends, the adopted family, my sisters and mother-in-law, my nieces, and all those who directly or indirectly have been part in my life, for this reason thank you all of you.

Segundo, me gustaría mostrar algo de lo que hice para los regalitos de navidad y otras que he hecho durante este tiempo.

El RETORNO DEL JEDI (THE RETURN OF THE JEDI)

Una aclaración primero: porque el título? Porque estoy regresando y me parece que el titulo  suena bien. Había una vez una chica que acostumbraba escribir en un blog, pero un día dejó de hacerlo, porque sí. Esto es un tanto triste pero soy esa chica, mi razón no es exactamente porque sí, pero en los últimos meses estuve un poquito ocupada y cuando tenía algo de tiempo libre lo usaba solamente para divertirme con mi familia, amigos o simplemente dedicando un poco de tiempo para mí misma. Entonces como no he escrito desde mucho tiempo voy a hacer un pequeño resumen de estos últimos meses: estuve haciendo manualidades para mis amigos, algunos de los cuales estuvieron aquí visitándonos, otros los mandé como regalos de navidad para mis amigos que viven en otros países o en otras ciudades aquí en España. Mi suegra estuvo visitándonos y teníamos que atenderla de la misma manera que ella hace cuando la visitamos, y también le hice algunos regalitos. Para el día de reyes intenté hacer algo de decoupage, pero como no tuve tiempo solo decoré los tarros de leche del bebé reciclados, que en mi opinión no quedaron muy mal, pero podrían haber estado mejor. Empecé nuevamente con mis clases de patchwork y el curso para preparar el First Certificate. (estos dos últimos necesitan mucha dedicación). Continúo buscando trabajo ya que las manualidades no son fáciles de vender, pero en estos tiempos es un poco complicado encontrar un trabajo, lo importante es no desistir con ninguna de las dos opciones. Puff, espero volver a la rutina de escribir otra vez, ya que esto a la vez me ayuda  con mis estudios de Inglés, y además también me gustaría hacer algunos cambios en el blog, para hacerlo más atractivo para ustedes mis queridos visitantes. Entonces un poquito de paciencia, mientras tanto les dejo algunas de las cositas que hice durante este tiempo.

An explanation first. Why the title? Because I’m back and this title sounds good. Once upon a time, a woman used to write in a blog, but one day stopped doing it for no reason. It is really sad but I am that girl, and my reason is not exactly for no reason but in the last few months I have been a little busy and when I had some free time I would only use it to enjoy myself with my family, friends, or just dedicating time for myself. So, as I haven’t written in such a long time I would like to make a little summary of these last few months. I was making handicrafts for my friends, some of whom where here visiting us, while others, I sent the handicrafts as Christmas presents to my friends who are in their countries or other cities here in Spain. My mother-in-law was visiting us too and we had to attend to her in the same way that she does when we are visiting her, and I made some presents for her too. For Kings Day I tried to make some decoupage, but as I didn´t have a lot of time, I only decorated some recycled baby milk cans. In my opinion it wasn`t very bad, but it could have been better. I started my patchwork classes again and the curse of preparing my English First Certificate (these last two items need a lot of dedication). I have continued looking for a job, since my handicrafts aren’t easy to sell, but in these times it is a little complicated to find a job, but the important thing is not desist with any of the two options. Puff, so I hope to go back to the routine of writing again, since it is going to help me at the same time with my English studies, and I want to make some changes to the blog too, to make it more attractive for you, my dear visitors, so be patient. Meanwhile, I will leave you some of the little things that I have made during this time.

 

 

COSITAS PARA EL BEBE (BABY THINGS)

Ser madre a tiempo completo, esposa, ama de casa e intentar ser  una artesana y blogera no es trabajo fácil pero lo he intentado y creo que aunque es difícil no es imposible. Algunos meses atrás estuve haciendo cosas para nuestro bebe y otras cosas para la familia pero no había podido postearlos, ahora tengo un poquito más de tiempo porque el bebe es un poquito más independiente y mi esposo tiene un poquito de tiempo libre en su trabajo entonces me ayuda estando con el bebe. En junio tuvimos el bautismo del bebe, entonces yo hice las invitaciones y unos recuerditos para la gente que pudo venir a la celebración, con esto en particular tuve ayuda de mi hermanita y aunque no es una artesana, tengo que admitir que hizo un gran trabajo, en este caso fue de mucha ayuda, mi mamá también ayudó, con opiniones y haciendo los bordes de las tarjetitas (gracias a las dos. Besitos)de recuerditos, hice unos candelabros con vasitos de vidrio de arroz con leche reciclados(también sirven los de yogurt pero en envase de vidrio). Los decoré con papel hecho a mano que había comprado hace mucho tiempo y usé el pegante especial que compramos en la feria a la que fuimos en enero. Otras cosas que hice para mr. Txikito fueron: una toalla amarilla con capucha, y aunque fue hecha cuando pensábamos que iba a ser niña, se puede usar para niño también ya que solo la decoré con colores para niña en el sesgo o bies y unos baberos con el mismo bies y otros que parecían más para niño porque no somos muy fans del color rosa para niñas, entonces habíamos decidido colores más o menos neutrales. Como nació antes de lo esperado no hice muchas cosas y eso fue también una ventaja. Lo siguiente que hice ya para él, fue un cambiador portátil con un pedazo de tela de IKEA, que lo usé para el exterior, y para la parte donde vá el acostadito usé riso impermeable (es como el que se usa en algunos protectores de colchón), en algunas páginas de internet ví que solo usaban tela plástica o impermeable, pero pensé que no sería muy agradable para su culito. Le pinté unos bodies o ranitas que llaman porque venían sin decoración; en uno pinté un diseño celta, en otro hice un dibujo libre (intenté copiar la guitarra de su papa) y en el otro le estampé una imagen de internet con papel transfer. Ahora tengo más proyectos para él, algunos empezados y otros solo en la mente, espero tener tiempo para terminarlos y empezar los otros.

To be a full time mother, housewife, and try to be a crafter and blogger is not an easy job, but I have tried and I believe that it is difficult but not impossible. Over the last few months I have been making things for our baby and other things for our family but I couldn’t post them. Now I have a little free time because baby is now a little more independent and my husband has a little more free time in his job, and he has been helping me by spending time with him. In June we had the baby baptism, so I made the wee invitations and some little souvenirs for the people who came to the celebration. With these in particular I had some help from my little sister, and although she is not a crafter, I had to admit that she did a good job. She was really helpful in this case, and my mom helped us too, with opinions and making the borders for the little cards (thanks a lot to both you girls, xxx). As souvenirs I made some candle pots by recycling rice pudding glass pots from the supermarket (it is also possible to make them with glass yoghurt pots), I covered it with handmade paper that I had bought long time ago, and I used special glue that we bought at the fair which we went to in January. Other things that I made for Mr. Txikito were a yellow hooded towel and although it was made when we thought that it would be a little girl, it could be used for a boy too, since I only decorated it with girly colors in the bias tape, and I made some bibs with the same bias tape and others that look more for a boy because we aren’t big fans of the colour pink for ladies, so we decided on neutral colours. As he was born earlier than expected I didn’t make a lot of things and it was a little advantage too. The next thing that I made for him was a travel changing mat with a piece of IKEA fabric, which I used on the outside, and for the place that he has to stay lie down I used a waterproof towel fabric (the same that is used for the mattress covers). On some web pages I saw that they only use a waterproof fabric or plastic fabric but I thought that it couldn’t be very comfortable for the little baby bum. I decorated some of his bodies because they didn’t have any decorations and painted them with a Celtic design, another with a free hand drawing (I tried to copy his daddy’s guitar) and the other by stamping an image from the internet with transfer paper. At the moment I have more projects, some started and others only in my mind. I hope to have free time to finish them and get the others started.  

SONAJERO MONSTRUO PARA BEBE (MONSTER RATTLER FOR BABY)

Mucho tiempo hace que terminé el más extraño y divertido regalo para nuestro niño. En mayo compré unos ovillos de hilo de algodón DMC “Just Cotton”, como eran muy coloridos decidí hacer un juguete para mr txiquitito, y cuando lo había empezado decidí hacer un sonajero porque no tenía ninguno. Fue un poquito complicado de hacer ya que no tenía ningún patrón y tuve que hacerlo y des hacerlo varias veces, justamente porque era la primera vez que hacía un juguete diferente a amigurumis y estos son más pequeños que lo pretendía hacer; lo más complicado fue encontrar algo que sonara para ponerle adentro y además no fuera a ser peligroso para el bebé especialmente dentro de su única pata (es un monstruo). Solución: huevos kínder rellenos con semillas de soja y complementado con papel celofán ya que suena bastante(es el mismo que le ponen a los libritos que suenan) en su cabeza que a la vez es su cuerpo le metí un cascabelito lo mismo que en sus largos brazos, después decoré con el mismo hilo la cara bordándole la boca y los colmillos y le tejí los ojos de diferente tamaño. El caso es que el resultado fue un bonito, tierno, divertido y ruidoso monstruo sonajero y lo mejor es que a nuestro niño le encanta. No hice fotos del proceso porque más o menos estuve improvisando.

It has been long time since I finished the strangest and most fun present for our boy.  In May I bought some balls of thread from DMC called “Just Cotton”, as they were very colorful so I decided to make a toy for Mr. Txiquitito, and when I had started it I decided to make it as a rattle because he didn’t have one of these. It was a little complicated because I didn’t have any pattern and I’d made and unmade it several times, just because it was the first time that I made a toy different to the amigurumis, and these are smaller than what I intended to make. The most complicated thing was to find something to put inside, just for it to make a noise and that it wasn’t dangerous for baby, especially into his single leg (it’s a monster). Solution: Kinder Eggs filled with soya seeds and supplemented with cellophane paper since it makes a lot of sound (this paper is the same used into the quite books). In his head, which is also his body, I put in an small jingle bell, and I did the same in his long arms. Then I decorated his face by embroidering his mount with the same thread, and canines, and I crocheted his eyes with different sizes.  Anyway the result was a nice, cute, fun, and noisy monster rattle, and the best thing is that our little boy loves it. I didn’t take any pictures during the process because I was more or less improvising. 

ASTE NAGUSIA 2013- SEMANA GRANDE 2013 (BIG WEEK 2013)

Hola a tod@s, hace mucho tiempo que no escribía nada, pero tengo millón de excusas. Primero la visita de mi mamá y mi hermana, después el bautizo de mr txikitito y la visita de mi familia política y algunos amigos para el evento, algunos pedidos que tenía pendientes y las cosas normales que una ama de casa y madre primeriza a tiempo completo tienen que hacer. Bueno, desde hace algún tiempo quería hacerle al bebe  unas alpargatitas y que mejor excusa que para el traje típico de Bilbao? Una de mis amigas me regaló las suelas para hacerlas y aprovechando que tenía desde hace mucho tiempo unas instrucciones para hacer unos zapatitos de bebe, de este blog: www.stardustshoes.blogspot.com decidí en el último minuto antes que empezara astenagusia (un poco exagerado porque fue el día antes) hacer un par de alpargatas típicas para el bebé. Tengo que decir que se ven bien bonitas, pero como dice mi mamá del afán sólo queda el cansancio y lo pude comprobar, porque tenía que haberle probado primero aunque hubiese sido solamente el molde en papel, pero no lo hice y ahora no las puede usar porque están un poco estrechas para sus pequeñitos pies, ahora tendré que hacer un nuevo par pero tal vez con un diseño diferente, tendremos que decidir. Espero que la pañoleta que su papi me ayudó a hacer si la pueda usar y al menos pueda llevar algo típico en la fiesta de su ciudad.

Hello everybody, it has been a long time since I have written anything but I have a million-and-one excuses.  Firstly, my mum and sister’s visit, then Mr. Txikitito’s baptism and my in-laws and some of my friends’ visit for this event. There were some orders that I had to make, and the normal things that a full time house wife and new mother have to do. Anyway, for some time I have wanted to make a pair of espadrilles for the baby, and what better excuse than the typical clothes of Bilbao?  One of my friends gave me the soles to make them, so I took advantage of some instructions that I had since long time ago, to make a pair of baby shoes from this blog: www.stardustshoes.blogspot.com. I decided at the last minute before Aste Nagusia to start (a little exaggerated, because it was the day before) making a pair of typical espadrilles for the baby. I have to say that they look really nice but as my mom says, the hurry only leaves you tired. I learned this lesson, because I should have tried the mold out first although it had been on paper but I didn’t and he can’t use it just because it was a little tight for his little toes, so now I have to make another new pair but probably with a different design. We have to decide. I hope he can use the scarf that his daddy helped me to make, and at least he can use some typical clothes in his city’s party.

COLCHAS PARA NIÑOS (CHILDREN QUILTS)

He hecho algunas colchas para niños y niñas, la primera que hice fue para mi sobrina que justo acababa de nacer poco tiempo después que yo aprendiera a hacer un tipo de muñequitas de tela, pegadas a otro trozo de tela más grande, algún tiempo más tarde leyendo en internet descubrí que estas pequeñas muñecas de tela eran muy populares en el mundo” las famosa Sue del sombrero” es uno de los más reconocidos y extendidos dibujos para colchas de bloques. Después intenté crear mis propios diseños pensando en los chicos e hice algunos dibujos teniendo en cuenta los gustos particulares de los mismos.

Ahora quiero contar algo de historia acerca de Sue del sombrero:

Bertha Corbett Melcher  está acreditada como la creadora de los dibujos de Sue. Ilustró libros de primaria a principios de 1900. Su libro, “los bebes del sombrero” fue publicado en 1900. En este libro ella representa niñas con sus caritas cubiertas por sus sombreros. Este primer libro fue reimpreso en tela. Sus diseños han sido un elemento básico de la elaboración de colchas. I have made some quilts for different children, boys and girls. The first one that I made was for my niece who was just born some time after I learned how to make a type of little fabric doll applied onto other bigger pieces of fabric. Sometime later I was reading on the internet and I discovered that these little fabric girls were very popular around the world and “the famous Sunbonnet Sue” is one of the most widely recognized quilt block patterns. Then I tried to create my own new designs, thinking about boys so I made some patterns for particulars boys tastes. 

Now I want to tell you a little story about Sunbonnet Sue, which I found on the internet:

“Bertha Corbett Melcher is credited as a creator of the Sunbonnet designs. She illustrated children's Primer books in the early 1900s. Her book, ‘The Sunbonnet Babies’ was published in 1900. In this book, she depicted girls with their faces hidden by their bonnets. This early book has been reprinted on fabric and her designs have been a staple of quilt making ever since.” (from: www.sunbonnet sue.com)

Bertha L Corbett nació en Denver Colorado. Asistió a la escuela de arte en Minneapolis y después se trasladó a Filadelfia donde continuó su escolaridad en Howard Pyle. Finalmente terminó su educación en Chicago. Trabajó en miniaturas de marfil, como también empezó a ser una respetada artista  retratista al oleo y acuarelista su mayor pasión fueron los bebes del sombrero. Bertha también dio charlas en clubs de mujeres y en escuelas, a profesores y a niños en instituciones de huérfanos.

Bertha L. Corbett was born in Denver, Colorado. She attended the School of Fine Art in Minneapolis and subsequently moving on to Philadelphia, where she studied under Howard Pyle. She finally finished her education in Chicago. She worked on ivory miniatures, as well as being a well-respected artist of oil portraits and watercolours though her primary passion was the sunbonnet babies. Bertha also gave talks to club women and in schools, to teachers and pupils alike as well as institutionalised orphans.

chupetero! (Pacifier holder!)

Este chupetero o sujeta chupetes (en Colombia le decimos entretenedor, muy original la palabrita pero muy acertada) lo diseñé para una amiga que tuvo un bebé hace poco, dibujé el barquito en una hoja cuadriculada luego lo bordé en tela aida y luego forré un botón con esta telita . Tengo pendiente hacer uno de estos para mi sobrinita.. que es con lo único que la engañan para que no coma. Si alguien está interesad@ en uno de ellos,se pueden elaborar con muchos motivos diferentes y estilos diferentes tambien incluso con materiales muy variados (fieltro, tela de colores, fimo, lana...) tienen mi dirección de correo electrónico y nos ponemos en contacto. I designed this pacifier holder for a friend who had a baby some time ago (in Colombia we say distractor, the word is very original but in fact more correct). I drew the little ship on square paper, then I embroidered it by hand in a fabric cream aida, then I covered it with a bottom. I have to make one of these for my little niece, so that this way it is possible to deceive ourselves that she doesn’t eat a lot. If anybody is interested in one of these, it is possible to make them in different colors and designs, and also with different materials (colorful fabrics, felt, fimo, etc) You have my e-mail to contact me.
