Para muchos,
esta flor es considerada como símbolo de pureza, virtud, inocencia y esperanza
de vida, la esencia espiritual de la pascua. La iglesia católica usa
esta flor para conmemorar la resurrección de cristo y la esperanza de vida
eterna. Desde el principio los lirios han jugado roles en alegóricas historias
concernientes a la maternidad; pero en este caso, el lirio de fieltro que he
hecho, tiene otro significado; esto es usado como símbolo de conmemoración por
los combatientes republicanos Irlandeses que murieron o fueron ejecutados
después del levantamiento en la pascua de 1916. Normalmente estas flores o símbolos
fueron vendidas fuera de la iglesia el domingo de pascua en Irlanda y el dinero
recaudado era usado para ayudar a los prisioneros republicanos y a sus familias.
Esta historia nos la contó un amigo de mi marido este sábado santo y nos dijo
que quería hacer una con papel, ahora no recuerdo si él dijo que así se usaba o
que él quería hacerla con papel porque probablemente fuera complicado para él
hacerla de otra manera; entonces decidí que tal vez yo podría hacer una de
estas flores en fieltro, entonces al día siguiente aprovechando que don Q. jr. Estaba
dormido empecé a hacerla y no solo para él sino también para el resto de los
que escucharon la historia.
For many
this flower is considered a symbol of purity,
virtue, innocence, hope
and life; the spiritual essence of Easter. The Catholic Church uses this flower
to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the hope of life
everlasting. Since the beginning, lilies have played significant roles in
allegorical tales concerning the sacrament of motherhood but in this case, the felt
lily flowers that I have made have another meaning. It is used as a badge worn
as symbol of remembrance for Irish republican combatants who died during or
were executed after the 1916 Easter Rising. Normally, these flowers, or badges, would be sold outside church gates on Easter Sunday in Ireland, with the money raised being used to
help out republican prisoners and their families. So I heard this story last Holy
Saturday from one of my husband’s friends and he told us that he wanted to make
one with paper. Now I don’t remember if he said that it was used in this way or
that he wanted to do it with paper because it would probably be more complicated
for him to make in another way, so I decided that maybe I could make one of
these flowers from felt. So next day, taking advantage of the fact that Mr Q. Jr.
was sleeping, I started making it, not only for him but for the rest of the
people who were listening to the story.
