FERIAS EN IRLANDA (FAIRS IN IRELAND)

Después de tres meses sin escribir nada aquí, aquí estoy. A veces es un poco complicado escribir acerca de algo interesante sin ser aburrida, por esta razón no escribo mucho, porque pienso que no soy particularmente divertida. Bueno, resumiendo lo que he hecho durante estos meses les cuento: Estuve preparando mi página en Facebook, que aunque no es nada espectacular demanda mucho tiempo, y otra gran excusa es que estuve ocupada haciendo los regalitos para mi familia política, que les visitamos en el verano. Pasamos un buen tiempo familiar allí y no hice ninguna manualidad, pero por otro lado hice cosas muy interesantes como trabajar como voluntaria en el Centro de Paz Corrymeela  http://www.corrymeela.org/  y aunque no estuve allí mucho tiempo, tengo que decir que fue una gran experiencia y pienso que están haciendo algo maravilloso allí. También fui voluntaria en una tienda de segunda mano que pertenece a Salvemos los Niños http://www.savethechildren.org/. Esta es otra organización que hace un montón de cosas por los niños alrededor del mundo, y los voluntarios de Norte Irlanda están haciendo un gran trabajo. Estuvimos en lugares muy bonitos e interesantes  como Scullions' Hurls, una fabrica de palos de Hurling(Un deporte Irlandés). Los dueños nos mostraron el proceso de fabricación y tienen allí un pequeño museo historico. sin embargo relacionados con mis intereses, solo estuvimos en uno, en el mercado de domingo de Ballycastle en el norte de Irlanda, porque es el día en que los artesanos locales venden sus productos, hay otro los sábados en Sligo en la Republica de Irlanda, pero a ese no fuimos. Pienso que esto es una gran idea para promover a los artistas y productores locales y que es una pena que en España esto sea algo más exclusivo o que tal vez no estoy muy enterada del asunto.

After three months without writing anything here, here I am. Sometimes it’s a little complicated to write about something interesting and  not get bored. For this reason, I don’t write most of the time because I think I’m not a particularly fun writer. So, summarizing what I have done during these last few months, I will tell you. I was preparing my Facebook page, although that Is not something spectacular that demands a lot of time, and another big excuse is that I was busy making presents for my family in-law as we visited them during the summer. We had a great family time there and I didn’t do any handicrafts, but I was also doing interesting things, like volunteering in the Corrymeela Peace Centre http://www.corrymeela.org/   and although I wasn`t there for much time, I have to say that It was a great experience and I think they are doing something wonderful there. I was a volunteer too in a Save the Children charity shop http://www.savethechildren.org/. This is another organization that does a lot of things for children around the world, and the volunteers in the north of Ireland are doing a great job. We visited very nice and interesting places,like Scullions' Hurls, a hurling stick factory. The owners showed us the construction process, and they have there a little history museum. However, related to my interests, we were only in one, in a special local market in Ballycastle called the Sunday Market, because it is the day that the local crafters sell their products, There is another in Sligo in the west of Ireland, which is on Saturdays,  but we couldn’t visit it. I think it is a good idea to promote all of the local artists and local products, and it is a pity that here in Spain this is something very exclusive, or I am not very informed about it.

 

FERIAS (FEARS)

Durante los meses de Diciembre y Enero, tienen lugar las famosas ferias artesanales in diferentes lugares de la geografía española, pero y solo fui a algunas que estaban cerca de aquí, por  ejemplo en Getxo y en Bilbao. La feria de Getxo fue realmente bonita, pero en mi opinión no había muchos expositores, probablemente  porque no estaba muy promocionado, porque nos dimos cuenta por casualidad. Fuimos el último día y vimos muy buenas y profesionales artesanías. En el Mercado de Navidad de Bilbao, ví algunos de los expositores que estaban en Getxo, pero con menos artículos, probablemente porque el espacio era más pequeño. Una de las cosas que hicieron en esta feria y que realmente nos gustó fue la exhibición a la entrada. Algunos de los artesanos estaban haciendo sus trabajos y algunos eran increíbles y muy duros de hacer, como el forjado en hierro. Algunos de ellos dejaron a la gente normal participar activamente en la creación de sus obras maestras, como la artista  Aziza Puch de Meano, quien estaba pintando una bufanda de seda, y por supuesto yo también ayudé a pintar, cuando estaba visitando la feria con una amiga, que también estuvo pintando la bufanda. Desafortunadamente no tengo ninguna foto pintando , pero aquí está el link de la publicación de la foto de la bufanda. http://gabonart.blogspot.com.es/2014/01/panuelo-de-seda-pintado-en-gabonart.html.  En los últimos días  de enero en BEC (Bilbao Exhibition Center) fue la 8ª edición de “Tendencias Creativas”, que en comparación con los años anteriores, tuvo más expositores y un atractivo nuevo, el espacio dedicado a la repostería y cocina creativa y los cursos de esto. Todas las tartas hacían agua la boca. Había expositores de diferentes de partes de España, pero también de Francia, Alemania y Reino Unido. Una muy buena exhibición de máquinas de coser antiguas, incluido el modelo de Singer ingles de 1921, usado en la serie de televisión basada en el libro “ El tiempo entre costuras” de la escritora española Maria Dueña. No he leído el libro ni tampoco he visto la serie, pero algunas de mis compañeras de clase de patchwork dicen que es realmente bueno. Cuando termine el libro que tengo empezado, creo que este será el próximo. Espero poder seguir yendo a esta clase de ferias porque siempre son una fuente de inspiración. During the months of December and January, the famous handicraft fairs take place in different places all through the Spanish geographic, but I was only at some which were close to here, for example in Getxo and Bilbao. The Getxo exhibition was really nice, but in my opinion there weren’t a lot of exhibitors, probably because it wasn’t very well promoted, because we only got news of it by chance. We were only there the last day and I saw really good and professional handicrafts. In the Bilbao Christmas market I saw some of the exhibitors whom were in Getxo but with less articles, probably because the space was smaller. One of the things that they made in this fair that we really like was the exhibition at the entrance. Some of the art crafters were doing their jobs, and some of them were amazing and doing very hard work like forging iron. Some of them let the normal people participate actively in the creation of their masterpieces, like the artist  Aziza Puch de Meano who was painting a silk scarf, and of course, I helped to paint it  when I was visiting the fair with a friend, who was painting  too. In the last days of January in BEC (Bilbao Exhibiton Center) was the 8^th edition of “Tendencias Creativas “, which in comparison with the previous year, had more exhibitors, and another new  attraction was the space dedicated to  confectionery and creative kitchen, and the small  courses for this. All the cakes looked really mouth-watering. There were exhibitors from different parts of Spain, but from France, Germany and UK too. And a really good exhibition of old sewing machines, included the English Singer 1921 model, used in the serial based on the book” The time in between” by the Spanish writer Maria Dueñas. I haven’t read the book and neither have I watched the series, but some of my patchwork class mates said that it is a really good book. When I finish the latest book I’m reading it will probably be my next one. I hope I continue going to these kind of fairs because they could always be a source of inspiration. FERIA DE TENDENCIAS CREATIVAS(CREATIVE TENDENCIES FAIR)

A finales de enero la séptima feria de tendencias creativas abrió sus puertas en BEC “el Centro de Exposiciones de Bilbao”, donde los visitantes encontraron inspiración, desarrollaron su estilo y aprendieron cientos de trucos de decoración y manualidades, incluso nuevos artesanos como el caso de mi esposito, que estuvo conmigo allí el pasado domingo y ahora quiere hacer algo en la terraza con uno de los productos que compramos allí. Esta fue la primera visita que hago a este tipo de ferias y pensé que iba a estar más loca intentando comprar todo lo que veía, tengo que confesar que estuve bastante controlada, pero fue difícil jajá. No sé cómo habrán sido las otras ferias para comparar esta, pero en mi opinión esta fue bastante organizada, llena de ideas curiosas y lindas tiendas. La mayoría de expositores eran de Cataluña, Francia y el País Vasco y no vi muchos expositores que vinieran del resto de España. El ambiente fue bastante bueno y vi muchos stands con clases para adultos y niños donde los expositores podían mostrar sus productos y enseñar cómo usarlos. Espero en el futuro poder visitar más ferias como esta y sería realmente bueno ver expositores del resto de España y otros países ya que estas actividades hacen fácil la integración y ayudan a la unión entre la gente y el intercambio de culturas.

In late January the seventh year of the Creative Tendencies Fair opened its doors at BEC          (Bilbao Exhibition Centre), where visitors found inspiration, developed their style and learned a thousand tricks on decoration and crafts, even new craftspeople, as in the case of my hubby, who was with me there last Sunday and now wants to do something on the terrace with some products that he bought. It was my first visit to one of these kind of fairs and I thought that I would be crazier trying to buy all that I saw.  I have to confess that I was really controlled, but it was complicated, ha ha. I don’t know how other fairs had been to compare to it, but in my opinion it was organized, full of curious ideas and nice shops. The most of the exhibitors there came from Cataluña, France and the Basque Country, and I didn’t see many exhibitors from the rest of Spain. The atmosphere was really good and I could see many stands with classes for adults and children where the exhibitors could show their products and show how to use them. I hope in the future I will be able to visit more fairs like this, and it would be really good to see exhibitors from the rest of Spain and other countries, since these activities make integration easier, they help with the union between people and help with cultural exchange.

ILUSIONARTE (ILUSION ART)

 El sábado pasado, por casualidad me tope con esta publicidad acerca de una mini feria de diseño independiente y como iba con tanta prisa ni le preste mucha atención, pero después de la hora de la comida decidí acercarme por allí aprovechando que justamente lo que tenía que hacer quedaba bastante cerca de la dirección donde se realizaría. Me quedé encantada con las cosas tan lindas que vi y lo originales, lo único que como su nombre lo indicaba era mini feria. Por otra parte los chicos que se arriesgaron a ir echaron en falta las cositas para hombres, tendremos que intentar crear más cositas para ellos que también lo merecen por ser en algunos casos nuestros más fuertes seguidores y en mi caso particular tener el apoyo de ellos; y hablo de novio, hermano y amigos y en algún tiempo atrás el apoyo de mi papá que siempre estaba en su mini taller ayudándome a hacer cositas para mis “experimentos” como los llamaba él. Espero que se repitan estas mini-ferias o porque no macro ferias para que tod@s los que disfrutamos creando podamos también exponer nuestros experimentos, inventos o diseños.

Last Saturday by chance, I found this advertisement about an independent mini design fair but as I was in such a hurry I didn’t pay much attention to it. However, after lunch I decided to go there, taking advantage of the fact that we had to do something close to there. I was fascinated with the nice and original things that I saw, the only thing was that it was called a mini fair. On the other hand the guys who risked going criticised the mens’ things, We have to try to make more things for them because they deserve them, for being in many cases our strongest followers and in my particular case I have their support. I’m speaking about my boyfriend, brother and friends and some time ago I used to have my dad, who was my first supporter. He would always be in his mini workroom, helping me to make things for my “experiments”, as he called them. I hope that these mini fairs will be repeated, or why not have a few macro fairs because @ll of us who enjoy making things could also exhibit our experiments, inventions or designs.
